If you are confused with multiple options for a single decision then iDecide can help you. Go through the following case studies :

Case Study 1

How to select a water filter to purify the water you drink?

Not all filters can remove all types of impurities. Some filters can remove some specific types of impurities from water. But the more severe the impurities more costly will be the filters. As a result the overall cost of filters also gets increased. In addition to this, the maintenance requirement of the filters is another point of concern. If any filter is required to be maintained many times a year those type of filter is generally ignored.

But above all the Contaminant Removal Efficiency(CRE) is the most significant aspect of a filter which also encourages and enforces the procurement of filters with the highest CRE. But if it is costly then we generally prefer to purchase a cheaper one compromising the CRE.

Again this consideration can affect the quality of treated water and its use for drinking water. A simple impurity if not removed can cause a massive impact on the overall health..

What is the solution?

Compare the filters with respect to the four main factors as given below :

1)CRE

2)Maintenence Requirement and Cost

3)Cost of Procurement and lastly

4)Type of Filters.

Now by type of filter, it does not imply only one filter. of different types.

It can be one filter or an arrangement of many filters of the same or different types.

However, your job is to select the best one.

Sometimes we get carried out by the very low cost of a filter which compromises quality and consequently our health of us. But if we can implement an unbiased system of decision making then the selection is expected to be non-partial and an optimal one.

That is why at this point of decision making the MCDM techniques can be used which can ensure an objective selection of the best filter arrangements.

The above four((CRE, Cost, Maintenance, and Type of Filter) can be considered as Criteria, and filters or groups of filters that are available for procurement can be selected as the alternatives.

Now  ODM can be used to identify the most suitable one.

Case Study 2

How to select the best hydrologic software for Free ??

There are many hydrologic models available that can be freely downloaded and used to achieve your research objective. However, not all the models will serve your purpose. Some features of those models will be unnecessary for one scholar but may be very useful for other researchers. Even then also more the number of features offered by the model more favorable will it be to the researchers. The frequency of updates will be another parameter that must be included when making a selection among the available hydrologic models. The higher the frequency more preferred it will be. As more updates mean the model is developing itself. The developers are still trying to improve the model functionality, which is a welcome feature of open-source models. The availability of tutorials or help files is another important parameter that is also very influential in selecting a hydrologic model for use in a real-time research problem. Accuracy and reliability are also significant. When the error of the predictions is more accurate and reliable, it will make the model preferable to the model with a higher error percentage. The applicability or whether the data file can be exported into standard file formats is also a parameter for consideration and, again, whether standard files are importable is also essential. The versatility in file import, as well as export, is a significant driver. Unit Convertibility or prediction from the models must be accessible in different units. If this feature is absent, the model becomes restricted and can be used for specific scale and location problems only. The Spatial Resolution of the model is also an important consideration. Coordinate Transformation or simulation under different coordinates can also be a parameter to be considered before deciding to use the software in the research problem. Although the parameters discussed are not all equally important. For example, the most significant parameter that must be considered first before selecting the model is the Ease of Use. This feature is the most significant driver for the utilization of the software. If the software is not easy to use and learn, most users will reject it. Less learning time will be the using time. Now, as not all the parameters are equally significant, it is better to use ODM to identify the best free hydrology software by considering the parameters on which the decision depends, considering the difference of significance that exists between them.

Case Study 3

How to identify the best farm management software?

Before procuring farm management software(FMS) to convert your conventional farms into smart farms, you must consider the following factors :

1)Number of hydro-climatic and environmental factors that can be measured and predicted

2)Procuring cost

3)Ease of use

4)Frequency of Customer support (FCS)

5)Number of features available at the time of procurement.

Now all the above five factors are not equally important. Some will be more significant compared to others and also their significance will vary depending on the preference of the decision maker or the user of the software. Here the ODM software can be used.

In the ODM software, write the above five factors as Criteria and the name of the FMS as Options. Score the criteria as per preference and for the options use the data about the selected criteria from the different FMS and rank in descending order of importance. For example, if the FCS of Agrivi is 10 per month and for Farm ERP it is 5 per month then Agrivi is more preferable compared to Farm ERP.

So the FCS of Agrivi will have a rank 1 whereas the same for Farm ERP will be 2. After you have arranged the options based on the criteria in descending order of importance then inverse the magnitude of rank into a value that is directly proportional to the selection preference. This value on multiplication with 100 will give the score of preference of the option with respect to that criteria. But in case of criteria, which has an inverse effect on the goal of the decision making, options of this criteria will be arranged accordingly where the highest value option will have the lowest rank and the minimum value will have the first rank(example of such type of criteria is Procuring Cost).

Once both the score of Criteria and Options are entered in ODM it will show you the best option among the selected alternatives.

The iDecide allows you to use ODM and the following decision-making software commercially.

That means you can use ODM for Free if you are using it for your personal uses. But if you are using it and taking money from others, then you need to purchase the commercial rights by paying Rs.500/= one time.
